Visioääni TomRack, rack, floor.

A tom is not a small snare. Toms have a strong fundamental, a clear second overtone and a wide, low tail above them, so this plugin is built around that.

Pick Rack 1, Rack 2 or Floor. The choice sets the derived frequencies: the default Tune, the start of the Nevada trough and the stick band all move with it.

What it does

Tom

Three toms, three maps

Rack 1 defaults to 200 Hz, Rack 2 to 110 Hz and Floor to 80 Hz. The trough starts at 2.2, 2.9 or 3.5 times Tune, so it always begins above the second overtone.

Nevada

A wide trough above the note

Tom mud covers the whole 200–600 Hz area, so Nevada is a wide trough instead of a narrow notch. Its effect on the fundamental is measured and given back as a low shelf.

Stick

Attack through a tube

Attack adds the stick through the same tube stage as the kick's click, triggered from the tom's own fundamental and set subtle by default.

Room

The middle of the chamber

The chamber send covers 250 Hz – 1 kHz with the first 20 ms faded, so you get the sustain of the chamber without its early slap. Floor toms get more of it.

Controls

The front panel, left to right and top to bottom. Every control reads 0–10. DEEP adds: Gate Fine, Comp, Attack Fine, Detail, Sync.

Questions about Tom

Does Sync flip a tom's polarity?

No. Toms are only moved in time. If the best sum would need a flip, the tom is not moved at all, because a shift without the flip made the sum worse in our measurements.

I have four toms. Which type do I use?

Use Rack 1 for the highest rack tom, Rack 2 for the others on the rack and Floor for floor toms. Then set Tune by ear for each drum.
