Snare top channel · VST3 · AU

Visioääni SnareFlorida shaper.

The snare top channel and the hub of the set. Florida removes the cardboard sound without taking the level with it, and Tune builds the body at the drum's own note.

Crack, Air and Excite put the top on. Dynamite and Violence shape the hit. A snare chamber sits behind it, with Nasa for width and Orgasm for the breath after the hit.

What it does

Florida

Cardboard out, level kept

Florida is a steep notch with a wall on the low side and a gentle coast on the high side. It is level-matched while it runs: across the whole Cut range the level stays within 0.43 dB while the boxiness drops from 21.4 % to 2.5 %.

Tune

Body at the drum's own note

Tune sets the body boost and the hit support to the drum's fundamental. Hits above 40 % of the track's peak get a decaying tone at that note, so ghost notes stay ghost notes.

Chamber

A snare chamber behind the hit

The room is a distorted tiled room plus a 2.28 s stereo snare chamber (convolution). The send is high-passed so the body you just cleaned does not ring back.

Hub

Everything else follows the snare

Snare is the reference for Sync. Kick, bottom snare, toms, overheads and cymbals measure their delay against it and move into line, polarity included where it is needed.

Questions about Snare

Where is the cardboard sound on a snare?

In our measurements it sits at about 1.5 times the drum's fundamental: 302 Hz on three snares tuned to 202 Hz and 339 Hz on one tuned to 214 Hz. That is why the Place default is 300 Hz when the Tune default is 200 Hz.

What does America do on the snare?

America balances weight against crack. With everything else fixed, America 0 gave 28.2 % body and 39.3 % crack; America 10 gave 45.9 % body and 26.6 % crack.

What is Orgasm?

A short breath after the hit, generated from filtered noise and the drum's own overtone. It waits until the hit has decayed, so it adds release without cymbal hiss.

Does the snare need to be on the track first?

Put every Visioääni plugin as the first insert on its track. The snare plugin is the Sync hub, so the other drums line up only when a snare instance is in the project.
